Why do they call the Fotona 4D treatment a non-surgical facelift?
12/02/2024Smooth, baby-soft, and plumpy skin is a universal dream of every woman. That’s why dermal cosmetology procedures are advancing daily to make your dream come true.
One such procedure is dermal filling, which you are looking for. So, it’s always better to do a little research before undergoing any cosmetic surgery, especially if you are doing it to your face.
But what is dermal filling? Is it good or safe? Why do you need it?
Well, dermal fillers are cosmetic injections that are used to add volume, smooth lines, and plump-up areas of the face. The injections contain various biocompatible substances, including Hyaluronic Acid (HA), Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA), Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA), and Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA).
As we age, our skin starts losing elasticity, collagen, and hyaluronic acid. It makes our skin show wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging mass. But dermal fillers have the power to restore what has been lost. It’s a safe procedure if done under the observation of professional cosmetologists.
As doctors, it’s our regular job to perform dermal filling operations on our patients, and we know the good and the bad. That’s why I would suggest learning all about the “dos and don’ts” if you are going for a dermal filler procedure.
So, let’s take a brief look at it.
Do & Don’ts Before Dermal Fillers
What You Should Do Before Getting Dermal Fillers?
1. Do Your Research to Find a Trusted Doctor
First things first! Think about your skin. You can’t trust anyone claiming to be the best dermal filling provider. Only contact reputed and highly experienced doctors like us with a proven portfolio of delivering safe and natural-looking results. You can watch out for online reviews and seek recommendations from your friends.
2. Speak with your Doctor
During your consultation, be open and honest about your goals, concerns, and medical history. Disclose any medications you’re currently taking, including supplements, over-the-counter drugs, and any medical conditions you have.
This information helps us to determine the most suitable treatment plan for you.
3. Do Prepare Your Skin
Dermal filling is typically performed on specific areas of the face such as cheeks, lips, nasolabial folds (smile lines), marionette lines, under-eye area, jawline, temples, and chin. Each part of your face requires a special pre-care. So, don’t rush for the treatment on the same day of the consultation. Take time to prepare your skin completely to avoid any side effects.
4. Do Follow Pre-Treatment Instructions
Your practitioner will give you specific pre-treatment instructions to follow. For example, you need to avoid blood-thinning medications (aspirin, Motrin, ibuprofen, and fish oil), lip-plumping products, harsh exfoliants, and certain supplements (like St. John’s Wort, Gingko Biloba, primrose oil, garlic, ginseng, and Vitamin E), if you’re performing dermal lip filling.
On the other hand, if you want it on your cheeks, you should avoid using skincare products containing retinoids or exfoliating acids in the days leading up to your appointment. It can help optimise the results and reduce the risk of complications.
Also, eat a light meal before your appointment to help minimise the risk of feeling lightheaded during the procedure.
What You Shouldn’t Do Before Getting Dermal Fillers?
- Don’t consume alcohol the night before your appointment, as it can increase the risk of bruising.
- Don’t schedule any significant social events immediately after your appointment, as you may experience swelling or bruising.
- Don’t undergo any other facial or dermal treatments, such as chemical peels or laser therapy, for at least two weeks before or after your dermal filler treatment.
- Don’t smoke for at least 24 hours before and after your treatment, as smoking can impair healing and increase the risk of complications.
Do & Don’ts After Dermal Fillers
What You Should Do After Getting Dermal Fillers?
1. Do Follow Post-Treatment Instructions
After your dermal filler treatment, your provider will give detailed post-procedure instructions for your condition. Typically, we will ask you to apply ice packs to reduce swelling, keep the treated area clean, and avoid unnecessarily touching or applying pressure to the area.
2. Do Stay Hydrated and Rest
Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. It can help promote healing and minimise swelling. Additionally, try to get adequate rest and avoid strenuous exercise for the first 24-48 hours post-procedure.
3. Do Protect Your Skin
Please avoid direct exposure to sunlight and tanning beds for at least 1-2 weeks after your treatment. The UV radiation can increase the risk of hyperpigmentation and compromise the results of your dermal filler treatment. If you need to go outside, wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and protect the treated area with a wide-brimmed hat or clothing.
4. Follow-Up as Directed
Attend all the scheduled follow-up appointments with your clinic to assess your progress and address any concerns you may have. So, if any additional treatments or adjustments are needed, they can be performed timely.
5. Be Patient
It’s normal to experience some swelling, bruising, and redness in the treated area immediately after your dermal filler treatment. However, these side effects are usually temporary and should subside within a few days. Be patient and allow your body time to heal fully before assessing the final results.
What You Shouldn’t Do After Getting Dermal Fillers?
- Don’t engage in strenuous exercise or activities that could lead to increased blood flow to the treated area for the first 24-48 hours post-procedure.
- Don’t expose the treated skin to direct sunlight or use tanning beds for at least a week after treatment to avoid hyperpigmentation.
- Don’t apply makeup to the treated area for at least 24 hours post-procedure.
