Muscle relaxing injections have been used in hospitals for over 40 years and in the cosmetic industry for about 20 years. It is a largely unregulated industry and therefore choosing the right practitioner and clinic for you is essential for safe delivery of the injection and a good result.

The areas that can be treated include:

• Frown Lines: These lines are also often known as glabella lines or number 11’s. They are the creases that sit between the eyebrows.
• Crows Feet: These lines are around the eyes and are often also known as laughter lines.
• Forehead Lines: These lines are the horizontal lines across the forehead caused by the contraction of the frontalis muscle
• Gummy Smile: This is where some people have more gum showing in there smile than others. In many the upper lip sits just above the top of the teeth but in some more gum shows.
• Excessive sweating/Hyperhydrosis: This is severe sweating that can interfere with daily activities. It is estimated that about 5% of the population suffers with this symptom

How it works:

Muscle-relaxing injections use botulinum toxin to smooth out wrinkles. Delivery of the botulinum treatment temporarily relaxes the muscle, giving a smoother, fresher, brighter and more relaxed appearance. It is an ideal treatment for frown lines but can be used for many other areas of the face and neck. Dynamic wrinkles are those that appear when you frown, smile or laugh; of course, we all want to retain some of this whilst we are smiling and laughing, but most of us would like to minimise those wrinkles that remain set after we have finished expressing ourselves. Every patient has a different ideal end result, from those wanting a little softening… to those wanting more significant relaxation of the lines. Dr Tanja Phillips has trained with Dr Bob Khana and achieves outstanding results. The areas that can be treated include frown and forehead lines and crow’s feet. In addition, injections can be strategically placed to create a brow lift and can improve a gummy smile. Aside from aesthetic applications botulinum injections can treat excessive sweating in the under-arm area with outstanding results.

Expected Results:

Results from muscle relaxing injections usually start to show a few days after treatment but you will notice the changes progress and the muscles further relax up until about 3 weeks after the injection. The rate of change varies from person to person. For this reason, Dr Tanja will usually see you at the clinic or arrange a video call review approximately 3 weeks after your injections and depending on your needs tweak any areas if required.

When administered correctly, muscle relaxing injections will last for 3 – 5 months

Botulinum toxin injections are not generally painful procedures as the needles used are ultrafine. However, if you are someone that does not like needles or would like some local anaesthetic cream applied this can be discussed at your initial consultation with Dr Tanja and arranged for you.
