Warts and Verrucas are extremely common and can effect anyone at any stage of life. Caused by a virus and therefore easily spread, treatments for warts and verrucas come in many shapes and forms and are readily available.

Treatment options

Over the counter topical medicines and sprays tend to be peoples first choice when it comes to removal, however these treatments can take several months to work through and are often ineffective. How does it work?

At the Dr Tanja Phillips Medical Aesthetic Clinic, our laser uses deep and selective absorption of energy, which will coagulate (cut off) blood vessels feeding the wart or verruca. As the blood supply is cut off, this causes the subsequent destruction of the wart or verruca. The laser energy can penetrate through thickened or calloused skin and is highly effective.

In addition to the destruction of the wart or verruca, the laser helps to promotes faster healing and will reduce the possibility of recurrence.

How long does the treatment take?

Depending on the size and severity of the wart or verruca, 1-3 treatment sessions may be required with 2 weekly intervals. However patients will start to see results after their first visit. Each session can take between 20-30 minutes and there is no need for local anaesthetic or post procedure skincare (Apart from our no1 rule of course, SPF everyday!)

How can I prevent spreading warts and verrucas?

Warts and verrucas are spread like most common viruses, so it is important to remember the following:

• Always wash your hands after touching the effected area
• Don’t share towels or washcloths
• Cover warts and verrucas when swimming
• Try not to scratch, bite or pick the effected area

If suffering from a verruca, also:

• Regularly change your socks and keep feet clean and dry
• Don’t walk barefoot in public places or shared spaces
