Understanding Sun Spots
12/07/2022
Acne is a skin condition that can affect people at any stage of life, however it is more common in teenagers and young adults between the ages of 11-30. It is often linked to hormonal changes such as puberty, pregnancy and later menopause, but can also be triggered by other factors such as:
- Cosmetic products (particularly those which are not non-comedogenic)
- Smoking
- Certain medications
Genetics also play a part, as acne often runs in families, and more women than men will suffer from the condition.
Symptoms of acne
Acne occurs when the sebaceous glands (which are found near the surface of the skin, attached to the hair follicle) produce too much sebum and when mixed with dead skin cells, plug/block the follicle.
People with acne can present mild, moderate or severe symptoms, in areas such as the face, back and chest.
Symptoms include:
- Oily skin
- Enlarged open pores
- Red skin that may be uncomfortable to touch
- Blackheads/whiteheads
- Papules/pustules (spots)
- Cysts (severe spots similar to boils)

Acne treatments
Fotona Acne Treatment
Using the award-winning Fotona SP Dynamis laser, we offer a simple and non invasive acne treatment course which safely destroys overactive sebaceous glands. In addition, laser energy is used to promote skin healing, calm redness and stimulate collagen production which will work on improving the skin’s long term health.
Following the treatment course, patients will notice a reduction in redness and the appearance of spots improved. Skin texture will also have improved and acne will be less active.

Dermalux LED Light Therapy
LED Light therapy has many benefits and is clinically proven in the treatment of medical and cosmetic skin conditions. Red and near infrared light can be used to support skin rejuvenation and promote skin healing. However, it is a Blue light treatment that is highly effective in the fight against acne.
The wavelength of blue light has an antimicrobial effect, which is used to kill common types of bacteria that can settle in pores and on the skin surface, causing breakouts.
Suitable for all skin types and tones, the Dermalux LED light can be used in conjunction with any of our laser treatments as well as a clinical-grade skin care program. It is a non-contact treatment that can be directed anywhere on the body.
Patients will notice an immediate improvement in their skin tone. Skin will appear calmer, clearer and feel more hydrated!
