If you’ve been wanting to get filler but are too nervous and feel like you don’t have all the information you need to make an informed decision… then you’ll want to carry on reading!
Dr Tanja Phillips Medical Aesthetic Clinic have put this guide together for those of you who may have any unanswered questions about dermal fillers.
What are fillers?
Starting with the most basic question… what are fillers?
Dermal fillers encompass a wide range of injectable treatments and are used for replacing lost volume, softening deep facial lines, lifting and facial contouring.
There are many fillers on the market with different densities and make up. The right filler should be chosen for the right area of your face/body to give the right result for you. We take pride in ensuring the right filler is chosen to help you achieve your desired results.
As an experienced clinician Dr Tanja will be able to assess your whole face and advise as to where filler can be placed to achieve the best results for you and the look you want.
What are fillers made out of?
Several brands of dermal fillers used in the Dr Tanja Phillips Medical Aesthetic Clinic. All use a gel made with hyaluronic acid to plump up the skin. Some contain lidocaine which is a local anaesthetic which helps with any discomfort levels during use.
Each brand has different types of fillers in their portfolios with varying particle size and composition to suit different areas of the face depending on the desired results.
Choosing the correct filler for you isn’t a decision you need to make alone! Speak to Dr Tanja Phillips and book in a consultation today to help pick the best treatment for your desired look.
Does getting filler hurt?
Dermal filler injections are not generally painful procedures.
Dr Tanja uses cannulas for most of her filler treatments. This minimises the number of injections needed and is therefore a much more comfortable experience as you do not need multiple needle entry points. Using a cannula technique is also safer or the patient giving consistent reliable results without any significant bruising.
Any potential discomfort is minimised using a topically applied local anaesthetic cream prior to treatment, along with the lidocaine within the filler which helps ease any discomfort.
Are the results instant and how long will they last?
The results are instant and can last between 6 to18 months depending on the type of filler used and the area treated
Dr Tanja will usually see you at the clinic or arrange a video call review 3 weeks after your injections and depending on your needs, tweak any areas if required.
Where can filler be placed?
- Lips for fullness – these do not have to be huge! A subtle enhancement is often all that is needed for an improved look and feel to the lips
- Nasolabial folds (nose to mouth lines)
- Tear troughs to help with volume loss under the eyes and sunken eyes
- Cheeks to lift the face and improve nasolabial folds and marionette lines (nose to chin lines)
- Jawline to improve jawline definition popular with ladies and men
- Chin to improve the balance of the face often a part of lip filler treatments
Is there a difference between dermal fillers and line reducing/muscle relaxing treatments?
In short, line reducing, or muscle relaxing injections treatments stop the muscles form contracting thereby reducing wrinkles caused by facial expressions. Dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid and similar substances to fill or plump areas that have lost smoothness and volume.
What if I decide I no longer like my filler?
If for whatever reason you want your filler removed, you can have the filler dissolved and returned to your natural appearance instantly.
