The team at the Dr Tanja Phillips Medical Aesthetic Clinic are excited to announce a new addition to our range of devices within the clinic: The Observ Skin Analysis scanner. This device can be used to really accelerate your initial consultations to the next level, providing us with detailed information about not only the skin we see but what lies beneath what we see. This can help us to not only treat what we can see but help to prevent problems from occurring in the first place.
How does it work?
The Observ is a diagnostic imaging device which visualises your total skin condition including the underlying “invisible” layers, skin structures and patterns.
Scientists discovered a long time ago that our skin consists of multiple layers. The only layer we can see with the human eye is the outer layer (the epidermis). Very often the deeper layers contain the key information to healthy skin and by us gaining knowledge of this it enables us to tackle and help reduce the signs of ageing.
The Observ skin analysis works on the principle of skin fluorescence. During the analysis, your skin will be exposed to a very low dose of UV rays. A harmless and safe intensity which is just a fraction of the natural sunlight which you experience outdoors. Whilst illuminating the skin with these different types of fluorescence images are taken, demonstrating different aspects of your skin’s health, this takes just a few minutes. The photographs are then shared with you and analysed by our aesthetic, laser and skin specialist.
Observ can help us identify a significant number of skin conditions, including:
- Wrinkle formations
- Areas with collagen loss
- Sensitive and thinned skin areas
- Fine skin surface texture
- Fine line patterns
- Depth of pigmentation disorders
- Distribution of melasma pigmentation
- Sun damage
- Free oil flow
- Acne areas and areas of potential concern/outbreak
- Clogged pores
- Areas of keratinized/thickened skin
- Areas with reduced circulation
- Dehydrated skin
- Rosacea
- Thread veins
- Skin inflammation
- Skin irritation
- Areas of lipid-dry skin
- Milia
What happens next?
Our skin specialist will analyse all the images, share them with you and take you through each of the analyses in turn. This will give you a clear understanding of your own skin health, its condition and any areas that you could consider some tailored help with. They will be able to provide you with an optimised routine to look after your skin health. In addition, they will discuss potential problems sitting beneath the surface and how you can best help and prevent certain conditions from surfacing, for example, redness, veins, pigmentation and so on.
As our specialists are trained in skin care, laser, injectables and more, they are not restricted to a narrow range of treatments that would optimise your skincare but have access to anything that can help you. So if on analysis it looks like a blend of skincare and lasers is the answer we will provide a bespoke quotation for you and your skin along this pathway. If it looks like injectables or other treatments would be best as a combination then this will be recommended. Your personalised plans will be emailed to you and a full quotation of any treatment options outlined.
